Health and Safety Expectations for In-Person Gatherings

We are committed to offering welcoming, accessible, inclusive, and low-risk opportunities for our community to gather. In the spirit of this stated kavanah and with responsible intent, AARC will continue holding gatherings and events.

AARC’s COVID Task Force meets as needed to determine the relative risk of in-person gatherings. The Task Force takes into account the rate of local vaccination, the high percentage of our members who are vaccinated, rates of infection in Washtenaw County, the unknowns of COVID-19 variants, and guidelines from the CDC and the state. In light of these factors, we have determined the following guidance currently best serves the health and safety needs of our community:

Guidance for Indoor Services and Events:

  • All are welcome to attend our services and events, both members and non-members. All attendees must register their attendance.
  • Everyone who is able to be vaccinated should be up to date on the COVID-19 vaccination and boosters in order to attend events.
  • If you currently have or have recently experienced a cough, sore throat, aches, fatigue, gastrointestinal distress, or loss of sense of smell or taste, stay home.
  • If you have a positive COVID-19 test, please stay home and check the CDC calculator for when it is safe to attend events.
  • If you or someone in your home or social circle is considered at high risk, either for health or reasons of advanced age, we encourage you to keep them safe by staying home yourself.
  • Masks are optional. People should please feel free to wear a mask if they are concerned in any way. Spare masks are available.
  • During services and seated events, enough chairs will be available if you want to maintain social distancing. When socializing, color-coded (green/yellow/red) stickers for name tags will be available for helping communicate one’s personal social distancing needs.  The “key” to the color coding will be posted prior to and at every event, e.g. green = handshakes and hugs are OK, yellow = elbow bumps only, red = social distance please.
  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 within 5 days after an indoor event, please inform Gillian (aarcgillian@gmail.com) immediately. We will notify attendees of potential exposure while preserving anonymity.
  • If you have any questions, please refer to the CDC Quarantine and Isolation Calculator

Guidance for Outdoor Services Events:

  • All are welcome at outdoor events, both members and non-members.
  • If you currently have or have recently experienced a cough, sore throat, aches, fatigue, gastrointestinal distress, or loss of sense of smell or taste, please stay home.
  • If you have a positive COVID-19 test, please stay home and check the CDC calculator for when it is safe to attend events.
  • If you or someone in your home or social circle is considered at high risk, either for health or reasons of advanced age, we encourage you to keep them safe by staying home yourself.
  • Masks are optional at outdoor events. People should please feel free to wear a mask if they are concerned in any way.
  • Color-coded (green/yellow/red) stickers for name tags will be available for helping communicate one’s personal social distancing needs.  The “key” to the color coding will be posted prior to and at every event, e.g. green = handshakes and hugs are OK, yellow = elbow bumps only, red = social distance please.

To everyone who has helped our community continue to grow and thrive during this challenging time – thank you, and thank you in advance for your flexibility.
